How To Seal Marble Countertops

The most important task after installing the countertop is sealing the countertop to protect it from stains, scratches and chemicals that can harm it. The sealer will form a protective layer around your countertop and repel stains. It is an easy DIY job that one can do by just following these simple steps.

Step 1

Purchase a sealer that is specially made to seal a marble countertop as other sealers may not be that effective to seal your countertops. You can search for good sealers on the Internet or you can ask from experts who seal the countertops often.

Step 2

Remove everything from the top of the countertop and clean it using a cloth to remove the dust particles. Clean the countertop using a cleaner made specifically to clean the marble countertop and let it set for half a minute as clean it with a soft cloth.

Using a clean towel dry the surface before proceeding to the next step. If the dust particles stay on the surface then it will act an obstacle and the surface will not be sealed properly.

Step 3

First pour the sealer into a large container so that you can dip your brush in it easily. Make sure that you open the windows and switch on a fan because some sealers can be suffocating at times.

Using a clean cloth or brush apply the sealer to the countertop and let it dry for at least four minutes. To ensure that the countertop has been sealed properly do it at least two to three times and let it dry for 10 mins.

Step 4

Using a soft cloth remove the excess sealer and rub the surface with light hands in circular motion. This step should be executed properly as it will allow the sealer to spread evenly throughout the surface and form a layer on it.

Step 5

Let the countertop surface to dry before putting things back on it and remember that marble countertop needs to be sealed twice a year to maintain its shine and to make it more durable.
